New VHF Radio-chanell 88A

Hi, picked up a new VHF radio and was scanning for channel 88A on the USA mode but only channel 88 came up.

Would that be the same/

Any thoughts?

should be there if your in USA mode 88a for usa
88 for Canada

I played unsuccessfully with mine for a few outing before finally downloading the manual and it explained how to get A channels.

that channel is not for public use. "COMMERCIAL - Working channels for working ships only. Messages must be about business or the needs of the ship. Use channels 8, 67, 72 and 88A only for ship-to-ship messages."

88A is used by guide boats on mainland as far as I knew. I think we now know why your asking... You can monitor it just really not supposed to talk unless your commercial/work vessel....
