I am not computer illiterate , and was wondering if you can take the card out of the depth sounder gps combo and put it into your computer and do your routes and way points that way instead of using your 5.5 inch screen.

I want to know the same thing.

Navionics makes a program called navplanner that allows you to do that. I wasn't able to veiw the card without the program. It cost about $100

Yes, you can - but it's going to cost you $$$

In order to read the card, you need a card reader - but not just any card reader. You need one from Navionics that has some special hardware in it to read the Navionics map chips.

Here is some good info on the card reader:

On the new NavPlanner2:

And the newer (unreleased version 3):

The bottom line is that many people (myself included) are not happy with NavPlanner. It works, but it is a bit buggy and does not react the way it should to make planning easy. But if you are using Navionics electronic charts - you have no other option.

It looks like Version 3 will be coming out soon. Maybe wait for that and a couple of bug fixes and we might have something. But I wouldn't hold my breath! [xx(]

There is another way to input info into your gps. I use a program called oziexplorer, I have the paid version but there is a freebee version. I also have a few digital charts of Vancouver Island. I simply view the chart in question put in my waypoints for routes etc and upload to a media card, put that in your gps and there you have it. It sounds complicated but I can do that in less than 5 minutes, sure beats doing that on a 5" screen. What areas are you looking at? I can try and point you in the right direction to find the charts

Looking for charts for Telegraph cove and Port Hardy area.
