Looking for modest $$ mooching rods

Hey guys (gals),

I am once again relying on the cumulative expertise of this forum. My wife and I are looking at getting a pair of modestly (50-150 $USD)priced mooching set ups and we're wondering which rods people recommend.

Some of the top candidates:
Fenwick HMX1264
Shimano CV106MH2
Daiwa CLW M1062M-G
Daiwa CLW M1062M

(anyone know what the difference is between CLW M1062M-G and Daiwa CLW M1062M?)
Your thoughts?
Thanks!
Griff

My vote would be for a 10.6 ft. Shimano Technium. Indestructible like the Talora, but lighter, and a beautiful finish on the rod. I have 2 and it's the best mooching rod I've owned.

Tough to beat the HMX for value.

I also like the shimano convergence for the price, but HMX is a much better rod and only slightly more money.

The Berkeley specialist aren't great in my opinion, I have one and its always the last rod to get put into action, feels "cheap" to me.

I have three Shimano Technium rods in 10.6' and love them.... SS

Pesonally don't like the feel of the Fenwick.

The Convergence are good for the price but are kind of fragile if your rough on things.

For the price/quality ratio you can't go wrong with the Talora or Techniums. However I find the Technium to not have a very comfortable butt, too short and small in diameter.

No experience with the others.

I can set you up with a pair of Rogue Rods for around your price range...they are new to Canada this year but have been around along time.

These mooching rods range from $270 to over $300 each. Must be one hell of a deal you getting them for $150.

I have seen many a convergence just blow apart at the joint. Then they stiffened them up which gave them a flat spot at the joint. Perhaps the last years model was improved?
I run HMX's and the Medium Berkley specialists with fuji guides. Can't say enough good about the specialist for the price P-Swiss.

I wish i was running some GL's and a few sages for backup...

I have a couple and I just find the guides flimsy and weak and the all the cement over the threads are cracked. Its funny I have 3 convergence moochers and I beat them hell out of them last year and not a single issue.

I'm sure you put more hours on your gear though TS, so I guess to each their own. I'll most likely be swapping the Berkley's for HMX's this year though, so maybe you can buy my old ones [}:)]

I too ran the shimano tech this year very good rod and great balance, not as good as my loomis's but a good 2nd place used them over 100 days and stood up!!!

THANKS FOR ALL OF THE GOOD INFO!!

I haven't heard of the Technium. Where can one buy these at? Are these available only in Canadia?

A model number would be great as I can't seem to find much using google for "Technium"

I live in the states so I hope I can find a vendor down here.

Thanks again!

Your lucky as today cleaned them all to get ready for another season so here you go

SHIMANO TECHNIUM TNC-M106MH2 LENGTH 10'6"

LINE WEIGHT.15-25 LURE WT.4-8 OZ
POWER:MED-HEAVY ACTION :SLOW

I know a buddy who got one as well but the model number was different and the thing felt like a broom stick this rod I wrote for you is a nice balanced one thin at the butt but lots of back bone.plus it looks cool in the sun the way the graphite is patterned LOL

Good luck Wolf

Last I heard that the Berkly Canadian specalist series were discontinued :( Big fan of those as well.
The fuji guide ones were the fenwick canadian methods rods (if im not mistaking and own a few of each)
The canadian method rods didnt hold up to the springs IMO and turned to noodles, were as the canadian specalist series have boated a few ;) and with the part fiberglass blank they really held up
Could be wrong tho

I too fish the Technium TNC106MH2 they are an awsome rod and well worth the $$. Not as nice as a GL, but half the price and more durable!
