If you owe him TONS of money then you will just have to go out alone and NOT wear your life jacket ;) lol

Here's what Andrew Coyne had to say on Twitter:

"Oh JESUS F**K: CBC finds 1 drowned kid- canoeing alone, after party, in May - decides we need universal lifejacket law http://bit.ly/aWjGBC"

I always thought that it was law to have a lifejacket for each person, at least one oar/paddle, 15 feet of floating line, a light-making device (flashlight/flare) and a sound-making device (whistle/horn). Apparently I was informed to err on the side of caution....

Catch and release -- into my frying pan.

Yes they should be mandatory.... especially out on the ocean. Hope they pass it seen enough accidents.

We could save way more lives by reducing the speed limit to 20K.

That would be just as stupid as manditory lifejacket wearing.

BTW, would you include BC Ferrys as "out on the ocean" ?

Just another stupid law proposed by stupid people who have no experience in boats. Just like the stupid people who gave us the gun registry.

Don't need it. Don't want it.

Just like the seat belt law, we want to protect our children so they have to have car seats & seat belts.............ever see seat belts in or on a school bus, except for the driver?

Yes, this is Canada..........and the Canadian way

Have to agree with Jim a life jacket is for emergency, every time we are out on the water is that a emergency, get real people.

Tell us how you really feel Sushihunter.....
I agree with you, I've been on the ocean a large part of my life, and experienced tells me when to wear my PFD.

Is it not true that if you have Inflatable Life Jackets they are already mandatory to wear in open deck boats and when on deck in a closed deck boat??

Wow. I guess I am the stupid boater with years of experience. Holy Fxxx buddy I just gave an opinion.

But it is of course personally preference.

Sorry Smiley66 - Didn't mean to make it a personal attack. [:p]

I just have no patience with Nanny state laws that are out to protect us from ourselves.

Educate, by all means. Just don't make it a law and fine me when I chose to exercise my freedom to be an idiot. [)]

It is this kind of attitude that gave us the gun registry and Transport Canada rules.

sqru Darwin... Bubbleboy rules! Wearing lifejackets really must be mandatory for the full duration of every flight over water, that includes all water! Because for sure the lawyers will sue if you're over cloud & crash... Somehow, they'll bring it back to the water.

Ban real food, there's something in it that will hurt someone... Hail Soylent Yellow, Red & Green!

Save fish ban, guides & see if the gorbies can even find one.

Ban outdoor activities! There are wild creatures, sunbeams, sharp sticks & stones, it's cold, it's windy, it's raining, Are we there yet? Mommy she LOOKED at me!

To one and all special interest groups and socialists... FOAD.

If Darwin's theory worked so well, if in a fairly direct way, for millenia, why is it so wrong today? If you chase the tyranosaurous, your stick really must be big enough to make an impression... Did you not think about that?... Too bloody bad for you.

Make em mandatory for all vessels under 6 metres and you will save most of the lives.

so you mean to say i have a greater risk of drowning in my 17 ft boat, but you over there in your 20ft boat shouldnt have to wear them?
[:p]

Fraid so banger, stats don't lie! just people. Most drowning deaths happen in small boats canoes ,PWC's, kayaks , dinghys and cartoppers. If you want to have a length cutoff system you have to have one that jives with the col regs and 6 metres fits the bill. Yah of course their isn't much difference from 17 to 18 feet . but there is a huge difference from 12 to 16.
