Liberals

I see that BC is going to find out what Liberals are good at. They are experts at cornholing the average man and feeding the rich, now BC average joes are going to get banged without the bacon grease. Is it a coincidence that Liberal and liar start with the same letter?
These arseholes are in it for themselves, I am reconsidering my move to BC and might just stay in Alberta and sell my BC house.[8D]

This new HST plan just about takes the cake for screwing the average Joe/Jill tax payer! Plan on paying 7% more for a LOT of stuff next year. These guys are out of control. I sure would like to see an alternative to the Libs and NDP in this province.

Gordo always gets his way. Now that BC hydro has got a veto on letting US power companies dam all our small rivers it will be interesting to watch this play out. BC has had pathetic government for years. If I didn't love our provence so much I'd move to Alberta or Sask.

Add 7% to the price of a house, thanks a lot. Time to sell and get the hell out of here. I remember why I left the first time 25 years ago.

None of these politicos in this Province are Liberal , Conservative or NDP they are representing themselves only and will only deliver to us what is good for them !
You can thank all the people in the urban areas who do not live in the real BC for returning these clowns !
Cynical , bitter an pissed off ................ and who said it on this forum "pass me the gaff!" with apologies to Osama for borrowing his line !

I love this province too. I lived here back in the 70's but moved away due to the job. I spent many years in Alberta but I always wanted to move back and finally managed it 5 years ago, settling in Campbell River.

It's still a beautiful place but the politics here is driving me crazy! BC has EVERYTHING going for it except our politicians. The level of mis-management, greed, stupidity, corruption and plain wrong thinking by our elected officials is almost criminal, however there seems to be little choice - it's either dumb or dumber.

The HST thing is just another example of how out of touch Gordo and his minions are with the rest of us poor tax paying peons. Add the carbon tax, huge MLA pay and pension increases, Olympic budget overruns, fish farm waffling, loss of wild salmon, BCHydro/ROR nonsense to mention a few issues and I start to get a headache.

I'm angry and frustrated but don't know what to do.

Sorry for the rant but I just had to get this out.

Remember the last BC election, 50 per cent of the BC electorate couldn't be bothered to get off their backsides and go and vote when we had the chance to get rid of them. If you are one of those who didn't bother to vote, don't ever complain about what you get!

As a matter of fact, I DID vote. In fact I voted for the independent that was running in my riding because I just could not stomach voting for either (all?) of the 'established' parties.

I'll always vote for an independent given the choice because that is the only chance we have of getting an MLA that will actually represent their constituents instead of toeing the party line.

The difficulty is finding a party that you really want to vote for. I often developing a score card that gives the for and against and vote for the one that is least negative.

I have a hard time with parties that believe they know how to spend my money better than I do. It is all the left wing grants and quasi-social expenditures that give me difficulty. I guess in a lot of these cases I feel that if the people that want things don't support them, why should I through the government.

In the case of the present government, can you suggest that the other party would do anything different to reduce the deficit, or would they in fact spend more money on added programs and increase the deficit for future generations.

As bad as it is now, would the other choice be better? Would they reduce taxes or would they actually add new taxes to fund their programs.

I wish their was a clear answer.

Precisely my point gomphus , you cannot put a party line to any of the mainstream groups as they have all shown marked tendency to focus on private member needs vs the constituent they are elected represent !!!!
I echo your frustrations and believe the "face dancers " we elect regardless of their banner party a re basically there for themselves not us , there is no longer a left or right in our climate only selfishness and greed !

AL

Like you say a greater group of politicians no matter what party are in it for themselves. Where other job can you decide your own benefits and salary and just have to answer to one review every 4 years. No wonder our youth is so not into politics, it is just a big gangbang for the porkers. I wish I had the answer instead of bitching but after 40 years of voting I am still left with a sore behind and bewilderment.:D

Politicians: unemployed lawyers & social workers.

Opposition: destroy any idea, steal any good one & cry it was stolen from you... Fight anything anyone else thinks might be a good thing.

Consultants: unemployable lawyers and fairy-tale professors who've never had to live outside the microcosm of theory.

Government employees: "you hurt my feelings!"... Yahoo 2 years STRESS leave, plus costs & punitive damages.

There are fewer engineers than lawyers and most new engineers are playing video games accross the web.

Minority: Give Me, I deserve MORE... and YOU must pay!

Majority: leave me alone you fatherless oedipus, I just want to work, come home to the spouse & kids, have a decent life and some reasonable downtime enjoyment.

When the majority are forced to pay never-ending cost-increases for government, and for useless consultants who advise politicians raise taxes to fund the banks and other errors, of allowing too big to fail to fail... NOT. And forcing the taxpayer who does not have property to pay for those who do have property to "upgrade" their homes (grants) and cars (hybrid)... And knowing ultimately, regardless their poli-colour... they all end up ruling by the gun... Why should anyone be happy?

Inflation... The greatest tax-grab of all... And inflation is the socialists' greatest tool to subjugate the ordinary working person... (Nazionalist Sozialist Party (****), Soviet Socialist Republic, France Social Democrats, Germany Greens, Italy, Greece.. the list is endless)

It matters not which alleged political belief gains absolute power... It is always expressed in an identical ultimate way... People get screwed. Capitalism... Buddies get rich stealing your money through the banking system. Socialism/Communism... Buddies get total power & control, and live on the best food and in the best accomodations, stolen (for the public good) from it's previous owners through outrageous taxation...

What's the diff?

What political party genuinely is for the ordinary working man & woman?.. None. Greens: tax everybody to do what I say... NDP (or are they "Demos now?) Tax everybody to give it to our favourite buddies.. Go on strike to lose a bunch of money. Liberals?.. Tax everything to give raises to our buddies & pay for tax credits... Conservatives?... where?, there aren't any. Doctors?.. We pay for their education so they can go to the states & make some money???.. Lawyers: Why?.. BIG commissions to blame someone else. I think I should just become a "street People".. Now, those guys are survivors, they know how to pick you pocket legally.

$60,000 salaries for a Masters Early Childhood Developement... To teach kindergarten?

Those are why, to the completely immoral and wealthy theorist, it is completely logical to rip you off by the tax system. It drives you to beg the government to "give" you your piece... and in doing so you give them yet more power & control over your life.

Democracy is the most wonderful system... Until the majority discover they can keep voting themselves "goodies" they "never have to pay for" until the tax-take is so great it goes beyond pain.

Street people are perhaps the smartest of us all... Do nothing, get a tan, wander around (victoria) with free everything, beach fires & BBQs, fresh air, no moving expenses when you change addresses, and no tax bills. You even get lunch & a regular under the counter cash paycheque to wander around yelling & throwing rocks through windows whenever there's an enviro or anti-government demonstration in town... A little social bonding with your peers.

Where's the political party that preaches self-responsibility?.. No more freebies?.. Implements press gangs to get streeties to give something back for what they take?.. Suggests they take hurt feelings out of the Human Rights interpretations?.. Suggests passing grades at school be earned not given?.. A Privilege, not a Right?.. And on & on & on..

BC's Liberals... They disgust me completely. All other BC parties just disgust me a lot more.

As the old joke goes, there seems to be a lot of "undecided" voters on the forum.

As was mentioned earlier, what business does anyone have complaining about the carnage Campbell is wreaking on our beloved province and our pocket-books when they voted him back in... or worse, didn't vote at all?

We all knew what was coming: more fish-farms, less Pacific Salmon, more of our rivers being 'SOLD' to the highest bidder, more taxes, more favors for his 'BIG-BUSINESS' buddies while the average Joe continues to see his standard of living slide backwards.

For what it's worth (that's a song title) I believe there was only one-party to vote for last election and that was the only vote anyone could have cast that had even the remotest chance of unseating Campbell, and that party - sad as it is - was the NDP. To those who genuinely wanted to see him GONE, if you voted for some Independant who had not a chance in hell of getting elected in the real world, you wasted your vote!

To those cry-babies who voted this environmental-rapist back into power - "Suck-it-up-buttercup!"

Me, I'm still trying to find the right words to explain to my children what went wrong...

Problem is, you only have 2 real choices here and both are bad [xx(]

Yes, I agree, but the BC Liberals are worse. I don't know why they call themselves Liberals, they're right-wing conservatives. At least the NDP wouldn't sell off BC Hydro by the back door to the Americans. Just watch what happens now to BC Hydro over the next few years. Hydro was one of the wonderful benefits of living in BC. Cheap electricity for the people of this Province. Watch your Hydro cost escalate as soon as the sell-off starts as all the profits go the the shareholdeers. And don't get me started about how they have shafted our wild salmon!!!:(

Combinning the two taxes just makes room for a new one.

... Are fishermen all liars?
Or do only liars fish?

Well, tell Walley Oppal that independents (Viki Huntington) don't have "a chance in hell" of getting elected. She sure caught him with his drawers around his ankles.

Electing independents is the ONLY way that we can get change in our system. The established parties like the status quo and will never do anything to upset their gravytrain.

We need many more independents who actually represent the people that voted for then and do not have to follow the dictates of the party boss. If the 50% of us who didn't bother to vote because they were disgusted with both parties actually had an alternative we could see some change in the political scene in this province. Don't forget that a couple of independents can sway the balance of power in an evenly divided Legislature. Remember Chuck Cadman?

Now if we could only get the tranferable ballot back on the agenda with a better campaign, that would be a step in the right direction.
But it won't happen, two defeats killed the chance for the forseeable future.
