Was in Dieppe this time last yr.
Family member was on "Chief", the 1st tank to hit the beach there. He was 1 of the 157 taken POW that day
After being hit he used his tank as a shield in the "ring of iron" on the beach , after returning to Canada after the war he took his own life.

Its a very beautiful and peaceful place now and is well used by the locals and other tourist.
We'll definitely go back and stay longer in that area.

Thanks for this post Mat. Been thinking about this all day. My uncle was in on Normandy and all across France. He told me that after watching all his buddies die in one battle after another he figured he would never make it out of the war alive. He told me that he was happy with his life and enjoyed every day because it was his duty, his duty to his friends who didn’t make it, to live life for them. I can’t tell you how much respect I have for his memory.

ya thanks for this everyone. Quite the remarkable generation of men & women. no claimed bone spurs or hiding for them. Selflessness, sacrifice, integrity, commitment and leadership. All so we wouldn't have a chance to do it right and honour their sacrifice - and refuse tyranny and fascism. That's what drives me to demand accountability from our government and our so-called leaders.
