Hello, I am new to this site. Live at Cape Cod and do alot of striper fishing, but this spring (April) I have been invited to Lake George, NY for lake trout fishing. Would appreciate any info on techniques for this type of fishing. Thank you. Phil

Sorry Phil but you're on the wrong coast there buddy.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Seafood, eat it, then catch more.

Hi Phil. Welcome to the site.

I've had some experience with lake trout in Washington and Oregon.
We have some dandies in some of our lakes that get into the 20 pound range.

Popular laker lures are are flatfish plugs in size f-7 and x-4.
Slow trolling on bottom is the key. Silver with blue back is a proven killer. In Wash. state's Lake Chelan they use whole herring behind a dodger or flasher. They are caught down around 300 ft. deep using downriggers.

In early spring fishers jig for lakers in the shallower water. In summer we fish very deep.
Good luck!

I have fished lake trout a fair bit in northern BC. A good sonar, downrigger and fish right on bottom without getting hung up is the answer. I use big spoons like roadrunners, coyote 6 and williams. Color is just something that is trial and error. If you are fishing for meat then I would suggest not to keep any much larger than 8lbs. In my opinion the larger ones just don't have the same quality and not only that but those large fish are the main breeding stock and can be very old. Barbless hooks make for very easy releases. Good luck!
