The town of Kitimat and other Northern interests are lighting up their fax machines. They have formed their
own special task force and are getting involved.
City council, anglers and outdoorsmen have joined together and created their own website, the Kitimat Halibut Allocation Task Force which is up and running.
These are independant initiatives created and funded by local commnity interests. We have also learned of a Calgary Halibut Facebook page that had over 400 subsribers after 24 hours.
Canadians are rallying behind this issue not simply because of their interest in halibut, but rather because of the principle that our common property fishery is being privatized. The public wants to maintain their access to this very important resource.
