Heading to the douglas channel area July 1 for 4 days of fishing with the wife. Its our second time there and we are new to the saltwater fishing game. First time we had no idea of the area at all and spent most of our time just exploring the different channels. This time we would really like to catch some halibut and bottom fish (ling cod, rockfish), more than salmon actually. Can anyone offer some info on some good areas to try for a couple of newbs!!??

Thanks!!

You will probably want to try Fish Trap, even at Money Point people having been catching both Salmon and Halibut. Good Luck!!

Hi sketch, we have been fishing the Douglas for 20 years plus, It really depends how far out you want to go, the Sue channel has a good hali spot, used to be called the stump, narrowest spot on the channel about a mile from the mouth of the Sue.(find 180 to 200 feet deep) slack tide is best, it's like a river when the tide is moving. Looking across the Douglas from the Sue on the right hand side is a water fall, we fish salmon down that side to the clearings. The mouth of the sue can be okay for salmon too
Last year we Hali fished Stanforth bank out past Kitzaway for hali, was our first time there, we found 170 feet deep, dropped the anchor. my nephew got a 35 lber as soon as he hit bottom. If you go out as far as Hartley Bay then Money point and Cummins point can good for salmon. I have never tried for Halibut there. We have been fishing around Bernard Harbor now for several years.
Good Luck

Nope, your not too late, We usually do a trip in June and one later in August, Halibut is usually good both trips, salmon is always a coin toss as the springs can be tough to find. Later in august the Coho come in
