Honda 9.9

Looking for input...

I have come across a late 90's Honda 9.9 4 stroke. I has not been in the water for at least 8 years, or even run for that long.
The owner has pulled and turned the unit over every once and awhile he says. I am assuming that these are decent motors and worth taking a look at.
He feels there has not been 50 hrs put on the unit since new, he has been the only onwer.
Should I take it in to a shop for service.
Should I do a DIY tune up oils, plugs etc myself.
What else should I look for.
Is it worth even going through the effort.

He will give me the motor in exchange for taking him out this summer... so other then getting it running that would be my only cost.

Any comments or thoughts would be great.

Sounds pretty good to me, and you can't go wrong with Honda, if he did look after it, pain in the butt to service though.

Well it might have been to good to be true.
I picked up the motor and after looking at the serial number the motor is older than thought. in very good shape paint wise.
1983/84 Honda 100 CDI 4 stroke.
I Did get it to run but Gas pours out of the top of the CArb.
I am goin to take it apart and give it a could cleaning.
Thoughts on if the float is sticking or somethng else?
I do not have a manual so if anyone would know the best starting points for the idle screws that would be great.

When running a everthing pumps nice..
does not want to idle but hopefully the cleaning takes care of that.

is there any thing else I need to watch out for.

just a update,

3 carb cleans and it the old girl runs great.
the best no Money spent ever.

Note the motor has a DC output charge plug. 60w with a 5 amp fuse.
Will this add to the charge of the main or may DR Battery?...

Thoughts
