Looks like DFO has closed the herring fishery effective Feb 10.
would hope that also pertains to commercial ?

Pursuant to Variation Order 2016-509, the 2016/2017 Food and Bait Herring Fishery in the Strait of Georgia will close to fishing at 23:59 hours February 12, 2017.


Prince Rupert - Area 3: Subareas 3-1 to 3-3 and 3-7 and portions of Subarea 3-4; Area 4; and Area 5: Subareas 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-10.


Pursuant to Variation Order 2016-508, the 2016/2017 Food and Bait Herring Fishery in the Prince Rupert area will close to fishing at 23:59 hours February 25, 2017.


These are end of season closures and are part of the 2016/2017 Integrated Fisheries Management Plan for Herring.

They should leave the food and bait and cancel the commercial. But then what would Jimmy feed his fish with?

The food and bait fishery is a commercial fishery. The catch just goes to different usage than the herring roe fishery.
