help-anoying ticking noise from the controls

hello all

looking for some help here--I have traced an annoying ticking noise in my controls back to the hour meter. Anyone know what might be causing this and what my options are? The engine is a 1993 yamaha 150hp. The rpm and fuel gauges are digital but the hour meter is a dial. I'm assuming that I can replace this pretty easy if that's the only answer. . .? Also this problem got me wondering if there is any way to test my engine alarm system? thanks.

What you are hearing is the counter inside the hour meter ticking over similar to a second hand in a watch, some brands can be a little louder than others.

this one is really loud and I don't remember hearing it before yesterday. But it is on regular intervals around every 5 seconds so I figured it probably is something like what you mentioned. Is it possible that the noise just got a lot louder?

Possible, hour meters are fairly cheap, you may ant to replace it if it bothers you.
