halibut fishing

Hi All,

New to halibut fishing, looking for some tips/tricks and some good spots?

Is it better to launch from Pedder Bay or Esquimalt? what would be closer to the best all around fishing spots?

I have all the gear along with an anchor set up.

I know most of you where in my shoes at one point, so any info would be much appriciated

Lots of good spots out there and you can access them from either of those launches as well as Cattle Point and Tulista Park in Sidney. I would recommend picking a launch, looking at your charts and determining what areas should hold halibut. If you try an area a handful of times you'll get an understanding of the currents and the effects of wind direction in that area. Make sure you completely understand the current tables for the area you plan to fish. If you "have the gear" but are not really sure about how to use it safely I would suggest a trip with a local guide. There are a few on the forum. Good luck.
