Dear Fisheries and Oceans Minister Shea,
We don’t understand how you can continue to give away our
public halibut resource to 435 select businessmen for free, many of
whom simply resell their access to catching halibut, while enjoying
their comfy couches and big screen televisions.
We don’t understand how you can ignore the 100,000+ anglers
on the West Coast who generate millions and millions of dollars for
British Columbian communities in favour of your chosen few.
We don’t understand your continued support for a previous
Liberal Fisheries Minister’s halibut allocation, granting select commercial
fishermen 88% of the total annual catch, leaving a mere 12%
to recreational anglers. Is this a new Conservative policy?
If so, we can’t wait until the next election.
