Freshwater fishfinder

Guys, I use a canoe or fish from shore on the lakes on Vancouver Island and am thinking of getting a fishfinder for the canoe. I was thinking either a Hummingbird Piranah Max 230 portable or a Hummingbird Fishin' Buddy 120. Thoughts? Recommendations? I know the Smartcasts are junk so I need something with a bigger screen (failing eyesight in my old age) AND THAT WILL WORK IN ABOUT 40 -60 FT of water. Any deeper than that and I would need a downrigger.

Thanks ahead of time.

I use Hummingbird and really like them. I have the 787 and the Matrix 17. They're both networked together with my GPS works great. When I was just lake fishing I had one of the cheaper units and was totally happy with it. I set it up to be portable by mounting it to a small plank, and for the transducer mounted it to a 1 foot piece of wood attached to the transom by a small C-clamp. Worked great. Seconds on and seconds off.
