Fish Farms out?

Doesn't sound like it. A move in the right direction, but it still sounds like they are entertaining new ideas and technology to maybe keep some of them.

You were able to read between the lines
"Open net" " closed containment"

As technology advances so does industry

For better or worse, they are here forever

If industry sees an advantage to make more money for their shareholders they do - you perhaps mean? Pumping costs $ as does getting rid of wastes. And closed containment has been around years, but the industry has stuck with open net-pens for ~30 years or so.

So maybe the more accurate saying would be as technology (e.g. CC) advances - industry will do it if they are forced to do it by regulators - if that regulatory regime has not been co-opted by the industry.

^^ yup any and every industry that has ever been in business from beginning of time has done this why should this industry be any different

^^ yup and this industry has not had to do an environmental assessment - from beginning of their presence in leased Crown Land off the public. So your question: "why should this industry be any different" gets back to the point I made in post #6 above about the regulatory regime being co-opted by the industry.

^^ happens all the time in big business, your point?

Regarding post #6...I would hope you and every one else here bitching has been driving an electric car doing your part to save the environment even though you aren't force to by any regulations that may or may not be coming...
Better yet stop killing wild fish while your out on the boat, burning 1000s of ltrs of gasoline, do your part to restore the stocks, every fish counts!

nice try, SF. Not going to give-up on the quest for accountability, good governance; or even the quest of democracy - because corruption, collusion & lack of foresight is common within our regulatory regime and government. That's what our veterans fought and died for in WWI and WWII - our chance to get it right. I believe we should keep honouring their sacrifices...

Sarcastic comments aside - I'll leave you with a quote attributed to Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, organized citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."

There are some glaring and obvious similarities - are there not?

This is no different then the commercial fishing industry who puts a portion of their sales into the eat wild salmon campaign.

Perhaps, WMY - however I see a distinct difference between promoting one's product to consumers - and lying & co-opting good governance and appropriate regulatory oversight.

For those who have decided to compare the Tobacco industry to the Atlantic Salmon Open Net Pens are confirming they believe Open Net Pens are killing thousands of salmon every year, just like the Tobacco industry. The difference is those who die from smoking have a choice.
"Tobacco continues to be the number one cause of preventable disease and death in Canada. An estimated 45,000 Canadians die each year as a result of smoking. Countless others live with chronic diseases. Despite public health education and prevention efforts, approximately 15 per cent of Canadians currently smoke"

DR Carl Walters in the SFI conference said there is no correlation in the decline of salmon with fish farms. That the decline started happening long before fish farms were present.
