Anyone ever crab in...or around Maple bay ? Where's the nearest good crabbing ? besides cowichan

Often wondered that myself, but never got around to trying Maple Bay.
The regs still talk about Dioxin contamination in the Bay, maybe that and the lack of a feeding stream into the Bay?

nothing in the bay, tried that experimenting around.. crabs like a fresh water source.
closest would be bear point in chemainus, or cowichan bay

A few years ago I dropped the pots in Burgoyne Bay directly across from Maple Bay and got the four biggest crabs in my life 8 7/8-9" rock hard with barnacles. Went back a month later and nothing, they do migrate. You're better off to run to Cowichan Bay it is consitently exellent, I limit every time.

what would be the best range in cow bay?

anywhere from 40-120', most of the action from my understanding is the 80-120' depth but ive never fished that (dont have the line on my traps)and have done OK, same or better than the deeper fishing guys from talking at the dock. ive done best about 400m east of the hotel/government dock/the breakwater there.

another great spot is about 60-120' straight off cherry point beach
