Crab / prawns in Port Hardy

This my first post, and would like some help for the Port Hardy area. Where are the best areas to crab/prawn in the area. Will spend the last week of July there.

I do a fair bit of playing around PH. Traditionaly I do my prawning localy late winter - early spring (Vancouver). I have never dropped a trap up there nor have I seen anyone bring prawns in after a day of fishing. Have heard from more than one local that it's best over on the mainland side up any inlet.

Crabs are another story. The local waters get picked over pretty good. If things aren't working around the harbour or Seagate, then try out in front of the airport in Beaver.

Thanks, that helps. I was looking at charts on the mainland side, but did'nt know if that would work. Any crabs on the mainland side?

Lots of freshwater springs spoil what look like decent Crab ground on the mainland side.
Not saying they aren't there it's just that you have you know where to set.

DB - Can you expand on the freshwater springs spoiling what look like good crabbing areas? I thought dunges like estuary situations....
