A Canadian Pacific Railway freight train derailed near Ashcroft, B.C. Thursday afternoon, sending coal into the Thompson river.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has confirmed the incident and says two investigators have been deployed to the scene.

TSB spokeswoman Julie Leroux said 29 cars derailed around 3:45 p.m. PT.

CP Rail spokesman Jeremy Berry said there were no injuries to the crew and no dangerous goods were involved in the incident.

He said the company is taking the incident seriously and has enacted its emergency response process.

It's unclear how much coal was released into the water.

CP Rail said it has boats and a boom at the site and will deploy environmental equipment as necessary throughout the day. He said they are working closely with local and provincial authorities.

The cause of the derailment is still unknown, and the Transportation Safety Board expects to learn more once investigators survey the scene Friday.
