Jigging for Herring is something I have never done but would be interested in doing. I spend a lot of time in the south Gulf Islands. Any tips on how to start?

Buy a sabiki rig. Whenever you see a bait ball drop it down. They really just hammer it. I've only ever done it in the summer while I'm anchored and I see bait under me. I can't imagine how easy it would be during the spawn.

Tried casting from little river with the kid yesterday, with no luck. Thursday it had been hot at high tide. Saw some sign near Mayne when I was on the ferry but looking for some in Victoria....have boat will travel but not to Nanaimo again!
Lantzville ,Parksville have been the hotspots, gotta get in on the spawn because it doesn’t last long , another method is the throw net . limit is 20kg or two day possession of 40 kg’s which is alot.

Whereabouts were they. Be nice to go try around Nanaimo. If not might have to go try around Parksville.
