Great News! From the link it is not clear if there is any action planned for the Fraser between Chilliwack and Hope. I'm optimistic that a Guardian Program on the Fraser would improve issues with catch reporting, compliance with regulations, opening times, illegal netting, ect..

Look forward to hearing more.

In the early 90's there was a FN guardian program initiated. It lasted a few years until negotiations between DFO and FN broke down and funding was stopped, ending the Guardian portion of the Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy.
This was a huge waste of keen FN personnel who were to trained to be a liason between FN communities and DFO. Imo, this was one of the worst decisions upper DFO management has made and is part of the reason why we have so much conflict with FN on the Fraser today.

DFO already pays FN from the Lytton band to do patrols in the spring from Lillioet to Sawmill creek.
They do a really good job at reporting illegal nets and fishing:mad:
