The Salish Sea Salmon Challenge Fishing Derby is a one-day fun salmon fishing derby hosted by South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition (SVIAC). This event is a very important fundraiser for SVIAC's Sooke Chinook sea pen enhancement project. (3,500,000 health Chinook reared and released so far and we need your help to make this keep on going in the future!)

This derby will be held on Saturday September 3rd, 2022 with fishing times between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The derby headquarters and sole weigh scale will be located at Cheanuh Marina. The two main derby prizes are cash and will grow based on the number of tickets sold (expected to be between $2,000 and $2,500 each). One cash prize to the largest salmon weighed in and one cash prize as a random draw picked from the list of ticket holders. There will also be additional draw prizes for quality merchandise which any derby ticket holder is eligible to win regardless if they fish or weigh in a fish.

Well I got lucky and won tickets for this derby in the Mike Chipps Derby, so I'll be out there. Was going to anyway, so will make a donation to SVIAC for net pen project as well (and get a few swag tix). Who else will be out?

I am in and I think they will have an envelope with your tix at the weigh in station.

Thanks, I was hoping to grab it before the rush in the morning or thought I could print it at home.

Ah well, good luck to everyone!

I’ll be in but still need tix and hope to do that tomorrow
Anyone advise what time is cut off for tix at trotac and outfitters?

It was slow yesterday so I missed the event.
Decided too just keep fishing after 4pm cutoff. Would have liked to see everybody as it's really been a long time. Saw many of you on water was nice to see. This actually was my first trip to Sooke this year, and was dieing to fish the old haunts.

It is really a little different now for me being farther away on day trips, so we decided to just slog it out at Possession till early evening. Headed home at dark.

Very slow just a few small springs and ton of wild coho we let go.

I hope you guys got enough for your donations, and glad to do my part. Good luck.

Were the winners of the Derby and Draw Prizes posted some where?
I did not see. A buddy just got a call on Monday saying he had one a draw prize.

Thanks. I could only find info on first place, side bet and cash draw prize. Could not find anything on the other draw prizes or raffle prizes. Am I missing something?

I guess they haven't been posted yet. I do believe that all the prize winners have got all their prizes by now. You can send an email to info@anglerscoalition.com to ask. There is no big secret here, just that Chris Bos has been super busy and is out of town right now.
