1990 Double Eagle 30 Rebuild

Thought I would share a few photos of my project. It’s a 1990 30’ DE commercial crabber/gillnetter that we are converting to a cruiser.
It was repowered quite a few years ago and not run much. Running gear seems to be in pretty good shape. Hull is in good shape.

I am going to completely gut it, stretch the cab and make her like new!!

She is a little tired and cramped on the inside.

I’ve got it mostly gutted. Getting it cleaned out before it goes in the shop for the rebuild. The guys doing the work weren’t real excited about the tear down so I took that on.
They get to do the smart stuff!!

Even though there was a lot of rot, it is real tough to pull apart. My sawsall has been the magic ticket!!

This is with the deck out and back of cab off.
It has been a fair amount of work just tearing it down.

Aww man too bad you couldn't keep those mosaic tiles. Project is crying out for a command bridge.

It has an old Cummins 555 for power. Not ideal, but only has 2200 hours on a complete rebuild.
You thinking of running the triple nickel for a bit? Might be easier to get a more modern plant in there now. I bet a 6bt would fit in there nicely.

Been a while since my last update. The shop has been backed up on another project so I’ve been waiting patiently...
Here are the remainder off the demo pictures.
Pulled the back deck out and had a good look at the tanks. Decided they were in too tough of shape so may as well replace them!!

Got the tanks out and the floor was rotten underneath one of the tanks. It’s a good thing I decided to replace them. Would have been a problem in the future.
also gutted all the framing around the engine and replaced with new frame and glasses in ribs on either side of the hull to support the floor.
slapped some gel coat on to clean things up.

also put the new hot water and sewer tank in.

First hot water tank from harbour chandler had been nicely modified by an erratic forklift operator! Amazingly no damage to the box! HC was great and set me up with a new one!! Great service from Harbour Chandler.
