Hello, i am new to this forum. I am early stages of redoing a 23 foot Hourston Glascraft with a 350 chev inboard and mercruiser mr 1 leg. I have removed most of the interior and don't plan on using the sink, ice box or stove. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will post some pics as i go. Thanks

Nice work. If the keelson isn't rotted out your way ahead of the game
For what ever reason hourston didn't bother to fully encapsulate the cabin floor support
For Middle floor (stringer that runs up the center of cabin floor). If it's bad it usually starts there. In my experience anyway.

Will you be using poly resin for your project?
Keep us updated

Thanks 23 Hourston,Is the keelson the stringer that lays flat up the center?.The stringer that supports the cabin floor is a little rotted.Im going to raise the cabin floor so its even with the rest of the floor and put a door for storage

Yes it adds longitudinal stiffness.
I have had rot in the floor support beam/stringer
I removed it from the back bulk head ( in front of gas tank)
To the front door into the v berth.
Once removed you will see the raw keelson.
I lifted out the said beam leaving the fiberglass that it sat in intact. Then used a half lap joint to join new to old.
I would suggest using west systems 2 part epoxy for any under floor work over the poly resin.
I have seen the floors raised in Hourstons before. But never up flush. keep in mind the head room and what your going to do with the toilet. I would also use the two part epoxy heated and fill all the holes in the stringer tops that held the floor down with a syringe. And also a long the keelson where the bilge pump may have sat.ect
Cheers

Thanks for your help as i am fairly new to this but do have a friend that has done a lot of this type of work. The toilet floor will be lower than the rest, i will cut the door into the cuddy shorter. And i plan on raising the roof or going with a canvas top ........Dan

Finally got back to the boat restoration. Completely gutted ,new stringers, floor, new layout.Still work to do but getting closer. Will post pics.
