$15 daycare

Why anyone would vote for a party that had this ridiculous program in their platform is beyond me.

Quebec based their program on the Swiss model, which was an abject failure. When launched in Quebec, the government budgeted $160 million per year on the program. Now its costs exceed $2.0 billion annually. Sure, the parents that do get a subsidized spot pay $7 a day, but the government kicks in about $60 per day per spot. And the costs keep rising because the daycares that have subsidized spaces are typically unionized facilities. This also increases the costs of non-subsidized spaces. Because the program is open to all Quebecers, there is no reason a person who makes $500k a year can't get cheap daycare, so no, it doesn't help just the folks who need it. On top of that, waitlists are horrendous with most families applying to the system even before they become pregnant. The Quebec program only supports 188,000 households (note that some households have multiple spots).

If this program comes into effect across Canada to the degree that the NDP is pushing, it will surely bankrupt our country.

I left this open just long enough for it to go off the rails and it did. Discussing politics on a public forum is a complete waste of time, albeit somewhat entertaining. Let's stick to fishing topics only and take the political conversation to a forum that is designed for that type of discussion.
