Sorry, my bad. I clarified and they got into 10 Pinks in 45 minutes from Passage Island to Point Atkinson. Then they trolled east from Point Atkinson and got into their Springs.

I heading out tmw with a buddy and a couple kids. Atkinson and even the Cap seem questionable with the winds, especially with kids, so if we can’t make it out there we’ll head back and hang out up the Arm. I think we’ll try out front of Cates for pinks. Saw them jumping there last time but didn’t try. I would think being not so close to the river, prob more likely to bite. We’ll see.

It spooks them… I tried.
Was up at the end of the arm tonight for two hours, pinks everywhere but couldn’t get them to bite. Tried trolling a pink hootchie, casting pink spoons, pink spinners and pink buzzbombs but they just weren’t interested, had better luck for them fishing 28-6. If anyone has any tips they’d be greatly appreciated.

That seems to be the consensus from everyone. I guess they can taste the freshwater and just go into spawning mode. They were jumping everywhere last weekend
I'm new to fishing and trying to understand regulations, why would West of Point Atkinson not be allowed? Does it not fall into Area 29, where it's open for Salmon?
Also, was in the Indian Arm yesterday lots of pinks was casting into the schools and caught 1

Nice. I went up and tried, no takers. Saw like 4 guys trolling in the RCA around Crocker Island, assuming they were just clueless to the RCA zones. Tons of zombie schools up by the mouth. Cool to see.
Went to Atkinson around 3:30pm, it’s laid down nice. 2 springs in the box. Great evening brewing up here.

I find you need to look for a pack of jumpers that are really close together, cast over them and twitch through it. We basically followed one school and it was almost a bite every cast. If we got too far away we’d just motor back.

Yeah good luck, welcome to the world of interpreting DFO regs. Spend a couple hours going thru these threads and it will make sense… kinda, maybe.
West of Atkinson right now is fine for coho/pink but gotta be in 28-6 or 28-9 for springs right now (or across straight/Sunshine Coast).

Well tomorrow is the Day! The current Regs are a bit absurd the Rockfish conservation areas (since 2007?) which are the areas with the red dots in the map. See:

I’m thinking we should be able to easily check the Lowrance Elite-7ti Fish Finder / Chartplotter and stay out of anything north of 49°23.400’N and south of 49°27.000’N for the closed area around Croker Island. And just to be safe just stay North of 49°21.583’N (Brighton Beach) to get above the Twin Islands until we bump against the southern boundary of 49°27.000’N for the closed area around Croker Island.
I don't know if we'll catch anything but a day out on the water is better than a day not. Hopefully we can stay dry.

We went out and fished the southern area first and didn't get any action, nor did we see any Pinks. But north of Croker Island, especially on the western shore there was hundreds (thousands?) of Pinks, with 15 in the air at any one time, but none of them interested in biting our gear. Frustrating.
We saw a couple other boats, some trolling, some casting buss bombs, and even one gent Fly Fishing into the schools. But no one landed anything.
But at least it was a fabulous day out on the water with great weather. Need to get my Buddy on the other side of Lions Gate.

I've never hooked a Pink east of Lions Gate bridge despite multiple attempts over many years trolling, mooching, spin-casting and fly fishing in the middle of massive schools of jumpers. I would have expected to have even foul-hooked something at some point, but no such luck. It's quite a sight to see 50 seals guarding the mouth of the Indian river, and these huge schools waiting back for a significant rainfall to time their run for the spawning grounds.
