Help With Shore Fishing For Pinks Vancouver Island

Wondering if anyone knows of a good place to catch pinks from the shore around the Nanaimo-Ladysmith area.

Rocky Point seems like the spot, but it's very busy and I'd like to take my son and I don't quite trust him yet on those rocks

No sign of them in the bay yet. Seems late this year. Use to be abel to fish them off the beach in Departure bay.
