I inferred from this that you think other vaccine-hesitant people are able to match your level of intellect, critical-thinking and articulation and will, through open debate, change their minds and get the jab. The vast majority cannot think like you do.
Some years ago, the government switched from half day kindergarten to full day. Why? Because there were too many disadvantaged kids entering school completely ill-prepared. In other words, in the opinion of the Ministry of Education, some people are too busy, but mostly too dumb to raise kids in an ideal way.
Chances are Dr. Bonnie's team, without saying it publically, fear that too many of the anti-vax and vaccine-hesitant
crowd are also too dumb to do the right thing and need some motivation (no passport = no travel, restaurants, etc.).
It's an arrogant approach, but there just too many knuckle draggers.
This is from yesterdays data. Just a bit more and we will kill this Mother Effing virus.
Remember we need to get below 1 on the R value and stay there.

This graph is from Prof. Alex Hill where he calculated the 3 groups separately then graphed the results.
It sure shows that the second shot is critical. If you have been waiting to get that second shot, get it now.

I wish I could post this anonymously but of course I can't.

I have a 38 year old daughter who just won't get vaccinated. Doesn't believe in it, hangs out with others of like mind. She has been working from home since the start and has said if she needs to get vaccinated to return to the office then she will. Go figure.

I have a son aged 40. He and his wife are both vaccinated. They have 12 and 9 year old boys. The 12 year old just started high school. 2,000 other kids in that school.

They are letting him decide if he wants the vaccine or not. They feel he is mature enough to make that decision. He absolutely is not.
They have given him the info on the 1 in 100,000 chance of developing a heart condition and he doesn't like needles. Well guess what, he is not vaccinated yet.

I have informed both of my kids to the best of my ability about the dangers of the Delta variant.

We were back to a near normal visiting procedure once the wife and I got vaccinated. Now with the variant, the grandson in High School and exposed to so many people, we are back to visiting outdoors and distancing.

WTF is wrong with people? Needless to say this has caused some discord and consternation within the family.

Maybe time to sell everything and move to an uninhabited island, one with good fishing of course.

I get where you're coming from, but even though not everyone wants to get into giant deep discussions the way I do, I think a lot of people have a real instinct about authenticity, and they recognize when someone is not telling them the whole story and they don't like it.

I really think that all of popular culture has just abandoned the idea of elevating our level of discourse...but I don't think it has to be that way.

You look at the Gore Vidal! William F. Buckley Jr debates... man, that was deep. And it was watched by average people.

I know we've gone to tweets and soundbites...but I will always argue that better debates make better audiences.

It sounds like you have done things right and still respect your family members decisions. But as the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
I would not recommend an uninhabited island but a sparsely populated one with good fishing is a pretty good bet.

True but if run them around the pasture enough they will.

Taking a hospital bed is selfish when the vaccine clearly prevents serious impacts. Going to work or to events unvaccinated will greatly increase your chances of ending up in the hospital. There is nothing else to it.

B.C. records 820 new cases of COVID-19 and 9 more deaths

Sep 10, 2021

British Columbia health officials announced 820 new cases of COVID-19 and nine more deaths on Friday, the most deaths in a single day since Feb. 25.

In a written statement, the province said there are currently 5,850 active cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus in B.C.

A total of 281 people are in hospital, with 135 in intensive care.

Overall hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up by 295 per cent from a month ago on Aug. 10 when 71 people were in hospital with the disease.

The number of patients in intensive care is up by about 487 per cent from 23 a month ago.

The provincial death toll from the disease is now 1,856 lives lost out of 173,158 confirmed cases to date.

The regional breakdown of deaths over the last 24 hours include:

  • Three in Vancouver Coastal Health.
  • Three in Interior Health.
  • Two in Northern Health.
  • One in Island Health.
As of Friday, 85.5 per cent of those 12 and older in B.C. had received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 78 per cent a second dose.

So far, 7.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, including 3.6 million second doses.

The regional breakdown of new cases is as follows:

  • 253 new cases in Interior Health, which has 1,828 total active cases.
  • 264 new cases in Fraser Health, which has 1,750 total active cases.
  • 112 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, which has 938 total active cases.
  • 90 new cases in Island Health, which has 539 total active cases.
  • 101 new cases in Northern Health, which has 782 total active cases.
  • No new cases have been reported among people who reside outside of Canada, a group that has 13 total active cases.
There are 22 active outbreaks in health-care facilities.

People who aren't fully vaccinated accounted for 78.4 per cent of cases from Sept. 2-8, and 86.6 per cent of hospitalizations from Aug. 26 through to Sept. 8.

The province says that after adjusting for age, people who are not vaccinated are 35 times more likely to be hospitalized because of COVID-19 than those with two shots.

Some will view this information and quickly conclude that covid mortality in BC is "only" 1.1%, confirming their belief that it's all a big overblown beat up.
But convert that to deaths per hundred thousand population, the typical metric used in community health, and you get 38 deaths per 100,000 (BC 2021 census at 4.9 million people).

Consider then that heart disease in Canadians has a mortality rate of 45 per 100K (incidentally putting us at 12th lowest worldwide).

So covid is barely 20% short of being the leading cause of adult deaths. And now with vaccines easily available, death from covid has to be considered highly preventable, certainly much more preventable than coronary disease where genetic factors greatly outweigh the effects of lifestyle choices.

The final takeaway is that covid death rates multiplied really quickly in cases hospital systems were overwhelmed. Northern Italy in March/April 2020 exceeded 500 deaths per 100K as people died in waiting rooms and at home because there were no ventilators or ICU beds available.

BC has been so successful at keeping infection rates low enough to remain within health system capacity that the skeptics and lazy thinkers have the luxury of believing that Covid isn't all that serious a threat.

This is a friend of a friend. Only posting for those that feel it is only going to get the aged and unhealthy.

It was sad news to hear of the passing of a fellow mortgage professional last night from Covid. Todd was an excellent man and someone I enjoyed every conversation with. The kind of guy you wanted to be around.
If you are not vaccinated, do not let this be your story for someone else to share. Please get vaccinated.

I watch dr Campbell on the regular. He’s now saying it not a matter of if you get covid it’s just a matter of when. You want to be vaccinated for when you inevitably get it to Lessing your chances of ending up in the hospital as your body has the antibodies already produced from vaccination and long term T cell protection.

that said not everyone will get vaccinated it’s just a fact and unless we’re okay with forced vaccination then our hospitals and system need to prepare for this to be endemic.

Unfortunately Kamloops and Nanaimo hospitals are on the edge and it's not looking good.
