What if your boat is hit by lightning?

I watch a few of this guys training videos, some are good, but this almost happened to me last week when the thunder clouds rolled in and of course my antenna was up as I was heading in for the night from South Bowen. (aluminum boat)

Ouch...the first thing I did, not knowing about it, was to lay the antenna down. You could feel it coming, that warm air with the rain and cloud formations

We didn't cross back home last Tuesday from Nanaimo, based on the forecast of possible lightning and /or thunderstorms.

I remember as a kid (mid1960's), our dad kept an outboard motor chain in the sailboat (Albacore AKC 171). We were on Balsam Lake in the Kawartha Lakes, and storm rolled in quickly. We never had to hang the chain over the side clipped to a stay I am pleased to report.

This thread got me looking on the Interweb for some articles.
