Volvo Penta 5.7Gi and dual prop leg

Hi fellow boaters, we are strongly considering replacing our completely rebuilt Volvo penta 5.7 Gi, leg, gauges stainless props and controls with an outboard / pod however we are not sure the value of our current Volvo. It’s fuel injected with approx 70hrs on a professional rebuild including new OEM headers, risers, fuel pumps, ecm, spark plugs, impeller and new closed cooling system etc. No rust on engine - 300hp and runs and looks new. The leg was original to the boat and has approx 450hrs. We pulled it in the summer, replaced gear oil, gaskets, seals and new u-joints. Everything will have to go so this a complete package with no issues and all required components. We are thinking of asking $18k for the whole package.. is this reasonable??

What boat is it from

It’s in a SeaSport 22. The engine runs perfectly, but there are advantages to outboards so I figured I may as well bite the bullet and get it prodded now while the 5.7 still has low hrs and decent resale. For cruising with my family and overnight trips the inboard has been great with amazing fuel economy and torque but for fishing, too many advantages with an outboard.

are you going to disclose it overheated to the point it shut down
Yup, turns out it was kelp or something over the intake put the engine in limp mode. Checked it out the next day and no harm done. Apparently it’s not uncommon hence the limp mode to protect the engine. We just got back from a week at bamfield and then a few days off Sooke with no issues

I have a 320 GXI / DP packaged that as of tomorrow will have a new, not rebuilt 5.7 V8 and all of the same components as yours. I'm on a similar journey too, and was thinking in a similar range with all new manifolds and risers last year, new drive in 2016 and so forth. I think you're in the ballpark for sure.

Good luck with it all, who is going to do the conversion for you?

I’ve worked with Jenkins marine (Sooke) and know they do a quality job and have a LOT of podding experience… finding an outboard is going to be the challenge - even new they are in very short supply!

Yeah I'm in the same metaphorical boat. Even the new 5.7 took over 12 weeks...Anyway also include all of your gauges, steering systems, bus heater, control cables to create a complete drop in package. Good luck with the project, the volvo package is great for the right applications.
