I am saddened to report the demise earlier today of the Mute Swan known as Larry, Buddy and, ironically given he's male, Olga by a friend of mine.
Don't know why, how or when but he had been around for some good number of years before I moved here and I've been living on the Spit for six years now.
It'll be weird not seeing him almost daily but all living things have their time and Larry definitely had his.
I've often wondered and sometimes worried about all the different things people fed him over all those years but he seemed to hang in there pretty well and was certainly a friendly giant of a bird.
R.I.P. Larry. Going to miss you.
