Splicing Downrigging Cable

Bought Scotty's 150lb steel cable - 400'

Questions are:

Should/can I just splice it onto the existing 200' or just start out fresh?

Would the splice "hurt" the rest of the new line as it winds on top?

How much line does a Scotty (electric) hold?

I have 4 rolls of about 200' which are only 1yr old. Was thinking that with 200', then add the 400', this would give me a back-up in case something happens.

I wouldn't splice, because the splice will be sitting under layers of wire corroding. When you get to the splice, it will be green and more then likeley break. The splice at the end of your line isn't affected nearly as much because it dries quickly.

We covered this before and the overwhelming concensus was that splicing was not a preferred way to go.
