Coming from Ontario and having fished for walleye, pike and bass all my life, I find it quite difficult now that I live in BC and eveything here is mainly trout and salmon.
Therefore, I've never flyfished really and don't particularly like it...does anyone have any suggestions on how to fish for freshwater trout with conventional fishing equipment and what types of bait one can use<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

It depends if you're fishing lakes or moving water.
Small spinners & spoons work well in streams and bait like Powerbait works well in lakes (that's not to say spoons, spinners don't work well in lakes they do as do trolling baits like small Flatfish).
Use a bass (bell) sinker and a chunk of leader-tie the sinker on and the 20" leader to that-add a tiny treble and cover with Powerbait or worms.
Cast out into lake and prop rod on forked stick-relax in chair and wait for a trout to hang himself.
Trout aren't particularly hard to catch in fact they are some of the dumbest creatures that swim.

What area of B.C? i'm a Manitoban and fish for all the species you used to fish in Ontario.I also do allot of Rainbow fishing,Rodbender has some good advice there except i would disagree with saying trout are easy to catch, they can be when its hot but they are so easy to turn off.Anyways shore fishing like he said powerbaits worms, small marshmellows work great with a worm on the hook float it just off bottom maybe 12 inches? Lindy rig setup works good for that.Little Cleo spoons reds, greens, blues, and spinners.Experiment a talk to locals and people on the lakes.Good luck! NM http://www.xtremesportfishing.com
