I'm installing radar on my boat this year and just received a Garmin 18 xHD radar dome. My plan is to mount it directly on top of the 3/4 hardtop, no mount bracket but I will place a 1" board (say star board) to give it a bit of a standoff so I can bring the wiring through the roof and seal it properly and add a bit more structure to it.
I've seen one similar mount (see attached image of blue thunder jet) its a full hardtop and mounted forward, so it should work. But just to be certain I have few questions for boat owners with a similar setup.
The roof on the thunder jet slopes forward already, so I'm not doing a wedge, do you see any issues?
Mounting the radar more to the rear (see image with red lines) will that be an issue, even with the two rocket launchers?
