[?]So, the installation instructions specify a distance of 1.7m between the Radar antenna and the Maqgnetic compass. This seems a bit excessive. Im'm installing a Furuno Model1721 MARK-2 unit. ( 24 mile).Anyone with experience with this or other Radar units?[?] Will follow Manufacturers instructions unless I hear otherwise.

Hey nice unit. The radar can be calibrated and corrected for magnetic deviation , but you probably want to follow Furunos spec. Mounting height is essential. The general rule is for every 3 feet of height from the waterline equals 1 mile of visibility in most conditions. While they may advertise a "24 mile radar" your actual ability to see that distance from a sportboat setup is probably an great exaggeration especially on a rough day.the radar book by Captain Kevin Monahan is a must read for radar operation.
