prawn fishing

If I find prawns with eggs and throw them back, will they survive or will they die anyway from the pressure change?

I assume they will be fine as the pressure change to the surface doesn't seem to hurt them and DFO suggests releasing them so I am sure their biologists have evidence to support their survival...or not.

The bigger concerns are getting them back in the water ASAP and releasing them tight to the boat so gulls don't get them which they do. I know sea gulls have rock guts but how they digest/pass a whole prawn is beyond me.

As long as a ling cod doesnt chew em up before they hit bottom they do survive.

I'd assume prawns don't have swim bladders like fish do which is the only reason why cod etc get bloated when they surface quickly
