New Atlantic virus in steelhead

I have gotten testing done on some farmed steelhead bought in Victoria. They were positive for the Norwegian salmon heart virus and Salmon Alphavirus. This is the first report of Salmon Alphavirus in BC... how it got into the steelhead farm I don't know, but I see that West Coast Fish Culture does rear Atlantic salmon eggs on contract to other BC fish farmers, so that is a possible vector.

Would like to speak to anyone who fishes that lake and has concerns/pictures. My email is gorbushca@gmail.com

The lab bills are going to top $100,000 so if you have a spare $20 and can donate it would help. I really want to test the wild salmon coming home through these viral spills: http://www.gofundme.com/SalmonDiseaseTestingFund?utm_medium=wdgt

See my report on the steelhead at: http://alexandramorton.typepad.com/...lmon-alphavirus-in-bc-farmed-steelhead-1.html

Alex, A quick commendation for the fantastic work that you do! We thank you.

Which lake is it you are referring to? For those who are not sure (myself) please advise!

Thanks again!

Ms. Morton, why are you not posting this data?

Possibly because Ms. Morton may realize you are a Fish Farm PR Hack/supporter here to run defense. I would not even be surprised if you are the departed Abselon with a softer touch. If not, you are using the same tactics of trying to bait Ms. Morton and if you were to get a response would most likely attempt to use it against her. You are not the first and we are on to you.

There's so much evidence against fish farms, it's unbelievable the industry can still get people to work for it. Strangely, the government and industry says they need "more evidence of harm". Why don't they provide US evidence it's NOT harmful? Because they can't. Now there's the Kudoa breakout.

Is it common to have hundreds of thousands of salmon in a pen with Kudoa? Then, passing it to wild salmon as they pass? Thats why farmed salmon dont belong in pens. If you wanna grow salmon, do it in closed containment on land. If its not profitable, then its a bad idea. There are lots of ideas that arent profitable, and the government does support them!!

Dave -- just go away--- Shills are not welcome here.

Wow, really good debate guys lol. Someone asks a rational question that may not directly align with your dogma, so you tell him to go away? What are you, 12 years old?

Dave is about as far from an industry hack as can be. If you folks had 10% of his knowledge and experience working with wild salmon we'd be a lot better off.

Oh, and Alex. Can you please post or provide a link to the results? Email would be fine too. Thank you.

BS--- he is a hack and a shill with a anti- Morton agenda . And now it seems he brought his personal press agent into the discussion as well... I repeat-- just go away..

Hey Dave and Nibbles
Just tell me one thing...do you feel Fish Farms are a good thing and propose no threat what so ever to our wild salmon?
AND the farm fish are disease free AND the parasite found consitantly for atleast the last 10 years but just now reported on CTV is of no consequence

Look forward to your reply.
