Conservation of White Sturgeon in Lower Fraser River, BC

Start: 2011/03/10 - 7:30pm

End: 2011/03/10 - 9:00pm

The white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) is the largest fish inhabiting BC's rivers. These ancient giants also boast the longest-known life span of all Eastern Pacific coastal fishes. White sturgeon have played an important role in the human history of this region but, currently, the fish are on the losing side of the relationship. As a member of the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society, and in his former job as a BC MoE biologist, Dr. Marvin Rosenau has been involved in extensive studies of the white sturgeon and its habitat. As an instructor of BCIT's Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program, he also involves his students in ongoing research projects of this species. Dr. Rosenau will share his knowledge of the biology, adaptations, habitat and conservation issues of this legendary BC fish.
