when your bringing just a boat trailer across the lines, do you just need to pay gst at the border (have bill of sale) and then have it inspected at canadian tire? or do you need the whole 72hr advanced notification sent to the border and etc? thanks
You need all that, and then a motor vehicle inspection, blah blah blah. You are better off to either say you are going to return the trailer to the states, paint it and run it as a u-built, or get the same trailer here.
One bill of sale. One title. No notice to customs neccessary. Once in Canada you will need to see Canadian tire for an inspection. Release letter from manufacturer no longer applies in terms of recalls. Make sure the serial number on the little metal plate checks out and you are on your way. You will pay the GST at the border. The PST will be paid to ICBC when you go get insurance on it.
you can call in the vin # ahead of time and get a recall clearence plus they get a heads up.
canadian tire wont give a inspection without the form 2.
wich you have to wait for from the gov.
if you have a fax or email its a bit quicker..
be prepared to pay for another icbc permit if it runs out after the 10 days. oh you still pay $15 to icbc to take it to c-tire because your first permit is only good from where you buy the trailer back to your home address. they get you every wich way.
