Hootchies

Yeah interesting, first initial strike on a hootchie and lost. I find I dont get that hookup while using the Purple Haze. Dosent matter what it is, but troll it, right out of the package- tandem set up and I sharpen them. No problem with spoons, bait whatever, just the hootchie set up. Happened often last year and this, primarily because I am using them more. I thought there was a previous discussion on this but I cant find it,

Try spacing the rear hook back behind the hootchy. I leave an inch between the end of the hootchy and the eye of the hook. Salmon can miss these many times and sometimes take many tries to hook up. How long is your leader?

otter, i usually change the tandem setup to a single siwash hook
i use a couple of chartreuse beads as a spacer.
Today the first fish was a light take and stayed on, the second
one hammered it real hard and got off.
go figger !;)

Growing up around commercial fisherman I found that 99% of them used a single large siwash hook with hootchies. Big hook big bite. I have used this for many years now sport fishing and rarely loose a fish and this includes sockeye.
