I find the 'Hollywood' technique, ie: reefing on the rod, usually not only loses fish, but breaks rods. We now use the reel down technique and it works fine. Once the clip has popped, the hook is set!

If the hook is set how are these fish 'spitting the hook'?
How about favorite hook? I was looking at 2/0 owners today verses vmc 2/0. Looking at the thickness and shape of the hooks. The vmc's shanks were very slender while the mustads where very thick. Also that gloss black coating makes it look very slippery. Ive been using the mustad 4 times sharper 3x stonger.. After loosing a big fish the other day Ive been trying to figure out what size I should be using on spoons and bait. You hear of guys landing 20's on the stock coho killer hook and that thing is puny. I go with a 5 siwash on hootchies but on spoon the siwash does seem to be the right shape? Octos more ment for spoons? ...
