Custom Jon Boat Build

Hi - I’ve ventured down a creative path here and thought I’d share what I’m up to.

It was time to replace my old lake fly fishing boat (12’ inflatable) so I’d have more room to take the kids w me. I started looking around and realized the Jon boats have not evolved much over the years. There is no storage and they really aren’t well thought out. So I started poking around and came across Tiny Boat Nation and their YouTube videos about converting basic aluminum boats into high tech bass boats. Cool. I want a high tech lake fly fishing boat. I have tools. Time to start building!

I bought a 12’ Marlon on a trailer and am in the process of following:
Custom rod locker to hold 7 fly rods
Casting deck c/w pedestal seat at front
Two fore dry storage compartments
Fore battery and house power compartment w kill switch
Side storage compartment (between the seats for safety gear)
Gear storage compartment
Deck and hatch lights (switched)
Bilge pump w switch
USB outlet
12v supply for electric motor at stern
3 cup holders
Carpeted floor boards
Two swivel seats on benches
Sonar/ fish finder w transducer and mount
2@fly rod holders
5@anchor mounts
2@Thomas Pocket Puller anchor pullers
Oars and custom oar hangers (for exterior side of boat)
Wheel system

Anyway, thought I’d share. Let me know if you can think of anything that you wish you had in a lake fly fishing boat!

If there is interest I’ll post more photos of my progress and the completed project.
