Takes a lot of love and guts for an older guy to take on a Cougar in full killing mode at close range with a stick. They probably have 4 times our strength, reflexes, agility, endurance and speed, and are designed for combat with built in armour and a large set of knives and daggers. It probably helped that it was occupied in the attempt to kill the women.
