Cooking Frozen Dungeness Crab

I had an uncle who crabbed for years and he would cook whole, turn the crabs upside down and freeze. He claimed the juices would seal the air out so no freezer burn. Thaw, clean, pick and the meat was like fresh.
Personally I use the crab cracker and just cook the legs. If I have leftovers to freeze I add a small amount of salt water and vacuum pack.
