Big lake rainbow fishing

Does anyone out there have any feedback on the ideal trolling speed when dragging plugs for rainbows in the big lakes. My buddies and I figure around 3 1/2 MPH but it doesn't seem to be working too great. We've tried a little quicker and a little slower but mainly around the 3 1/2 mark. Maybe we just suck. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am not sure on speed but when you are putting your line out just take a look in the water and get that plug moving erraticly through the water. Rule of thumb with plugs is to generally fish a little faster than normal

Try alittle faster with a plug or rapala or fla fish/kwik fish. I read in a book that they need to go faster to get maxium lure action.

I always thought they were to be fished faster for the lure action or atleast thats what it says in my book<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>
