[VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Ferries will be getting rid of its fuel surcharge.
It has announced the 3.4 per cent surcharge will be removed as of this Wednesday.
“With the current favourable market conditions, we have been hedging our diesel fuel costs and are now in a position to eliminate the fuel surcharge, which is great news for holiday travellers,” says Mike Corrigan, BC Ferries President and CEO in a news release.
“We know that fare affordability is an issue for our customers and we are pleased to be able to reduce the cost of ferry travel, as every bit helps.”
The corporation admits it still has an outstanding balance in its fuel deferral account, but it says that amount is dropping and they expect it to be down to zero in the first half of next year.
Foot passengers sailing between the Gulf Islands will pay 20 cents less, while a family of four travelling by car between Vancouver and Victoria will save just over $3 each way./QUOTE]
