Aluminum Rivet advice in Victoria

The only true protection of alluminum surfaces is proper prep of surfaces before assembly. Etch, Alodine, prime, paint. If you scratch the surface to bare alluminum or penetrate the protective barrier immediate repair should be carried out asap. Never mix stainless with alluminum. Never use caustic cleaners as they get in the lap joints and fester there causing damage. As far as protecting surfaces any good quality car wax is great and any interior surface can be protected with a product called ACF50 I saw the boat captains in HAWAII using it religiously although not sure about environmental impact. I have seen 50 year old alluminum look brand new and I have seen corrosion on 6 month old aluminum corrosion beginning its all about the time taken to prep.
