Exceptional Fishing in 2015

By Ole's Hakai Pass Fishing Lodge, 🕔Wed, Aug 12th, 2015

Hakai Pass on BC's central coast in the Cariboo Chilcotin area has always afforded guests a wonderful fishing experience with it's pristine water conditions, protected fishing areas and fishing variety and abundance, but 2015 has been an exceptional year for fishing.

Not only have the salmon been abundant,  each species has arrived earlier than typical for the area and  been feeding voraciously and giving fishermen and women an exciting fishing experience.  Alongside the abundant Salmon, their natural predators, Seals, Sealions, Eagles and Orca are seen daily in Hakai Pass feeding on the abundant salmon and sometimes snatching a fisherman's carch before he or she can bring it into the boat.

But there are some concerns too... It has been a very warm year and the heat has come to the area much earlier than normal.  This coupled with a very mild winter has seen most of the rivers and streams in BC's coastal rain forest dry up  and create a concern for the salmon that normally return to these area year in and year out to spawn...  Some more rain is very much needed to quench our thristy rainforests and ensure the next year's salmon can return to the rivers and streams to spawn and ensure fishermen and Orca the salmon remain plentiful in the years to come.
