In river netting pics

It really is simple ban gill nets period and target the black market sales of salmon ( apparently rampant this season in the canyon) otherwise we are headed towards extinction.

over 300 gillnets seized, the vast majority of them active's set that were fishing and the majority of them above mission bridge and mostly in the canyon. Pretty much all First Nations

Also lots of FSC sales this year

Conservation is not a priority with Prime Minister Trudeau! He would rather see 300 illegal gillnets than actually deal with the problem!

please explain how the fact DFO officials seized 300 illegal nets support your statement. Your statement and the facts are contradictory.

Banning gill nets is also not "simple". Neither of the other sectors are all that interested in such a "simple" solution when other options for them to harvest are not in place.

A report from 2005 suggests this has been an issue for a long time. Read pgs 34-43 it's informative.https://www.ourcommons.ca/Content/Committee/381/FOPO/Reports/RP1698791/foporp02/foporp02-e.pdf

Sorry Ralph not going to bite! If you can't see why non-selective fishing methods like Gill Nets need to go our conversation has ended!

Hah Hah! Putting words in my mouth is a just awkward deflection.

Gill nets need to be replaced by selective methods. Suggesting they have to be banned makes it sound like you don't have a plan and other people will simply lose their livelihood. That sort of approach makes it more likely such change will never happen

300 hundred nets seized is the best evidence that our F.O.s are combating illegal fishing!

that number has not really changed over the last 30 years. Typically its been between 150-300 yearly for a very long time with 300 being a higher figure in years where there was higher returns to the Fraser (easier to catch more fish and launder it) This year was low return and a high number of seizures. The problem is getting worse but the resources to fight it have been getting cut.

Gill nets still used by the commercial sector both in the Fraser (and other rivers), the ocean and seines are at least as big an issue as FN net.

there was no commercial fishing in the fraser last year, Area E had a nill fishery and this year they had 3 days of chum fishing. kinda hard to point the finger when they can't fish because of conservation concerns.

Perhaps if they used more selective methods more options would be available and if all hatchery fish were marked it would also benefit all sectors. if sockeye come back strong in 2022 will chinook conservation concerns get in the way?

Nets in rivers, nets along the coast by certain individuals that the government will NOT BRING CHARGES AGAINST
Government knows EXACTLY what is going on as they have a patrol aircraft (new1 on its way by the way) flying almost EVERYDAY OF THE YEAR!!! out of CRiver!!

Think about that for a minute
Flying almost EVERYDAY OF THE YEAR!!!

Looking, watching reporting and the government does nothing to stop these individuals...brutal beyond words..

What other rivers in BC do commercial fisherman net and when was the last time they netted in those rivers?
Skeena, Stikine and Taku at least. Last commercial opening on Skeena was 2018. The other two both had openings this year and 2019.

Nets in rivers, nets along the coast

Commercial and FN openings for fishing taks place through the year.

Nice try, not eluding to legal fishing..

These flights know exactly where and when any legal boat should be in any given spot on any given day, every day of the yr out to the 200 nautical zone, then other assets can look further,

Again Government knows EXACTLY what is going on but does nothing
