You think you won't sink: 120 seconds -- a true story

That is a really well written story and shows you just how fast things can go wrong.
The grab bag is a really good idea especially for you guys that go offshore tuna fishing. Water should be in there too.

I attended a boating safety seminar a few years ago and one of the things they talked about was flooding.
If you have just a 2" hole a foot below the water line there is over 78 gallons a minute of water coming in and your bilge pumps will never keep up. 3' below and it is a 136 gallons a minute so as a boat settles it only gets worse.
Don't waste time bailing as your immediate concern should be plugging the hole or reducing the water flow somehow. Wood or plastic plugs to match thru hulls should be kept on board.

Obviously in this case there was no hope to save the boat.

Great story that will make me take a second look at what's in my "ditch bag" and where it is kept. We all need these reminders from time to time that things can go from good to bad incredibly fast.

Thanks for sharing!
